With a black base body with red bars on opercular cheeks, females will often have gold bars but this is NOT a defining factor for their sex. Fully grown adult males have longer anal fins and caudal fins when compare to females. Very similar to Mandor except for slightly smaller slimmer body and finnage. Like many of the species in the complex, females shows vertical bars on the body when in breeding mode. Mandor, foerschi, and Strohi are notoriously difficult to sex at a young age, older fish with longer finnage are much easier.
